NFL player Myles Garrett appeals indefinite suspension imposed after helmet-swinging brawl, source says

(CNN)Cleveland Browns defensive lineman Myles Garrett is appealing the indefinite suspension he received from the NFL after he struck another player with a helmet, according to a source with direct knowledge of the appeal. Garrett’s minimum suspension puts him out for six regular season games and any playoff games this year. The six games alone would make it one of the longest suspensions for on-field incidents in NFL history. He is asking for the penalty to be reduced. Earlier this year, Raiders linebacker Vontaze Burfict was suspended for the rest of his season — amounting to 12 regular season games and the playoffs — following a helmet-to-helmet hit on a player on September 29. But the NFL made clear that …

But Lydia has her own theory. “I ate a lot of …

‘I used the same nappy for my nine children’

Katie’s week: Chinese medicine, bike frames, pigeon food and stew Image copyright Katie Holden I top up my mobile with £10 today, sending my balance rocketing to a whopping £11.36. I can afford this reckless spending spree because (wait for it) Etsy have refunded me £92 for a non-existent picture I paid for two months ago. Actually, I paid £102 for this myth when you include tax, so have lost £10 for two months of owning nothing but a beautiful dream… I defrost the freezer and start making stock with all the sheep bones and trotters that were lost in its icy depths. Our local butcher sells bones really, really cheap and gives us left over chicken bones for free. …

PR pitch to Ola reveals the inner workings of UK ride-hailing politics

A UK PR firm pitching to run an account for Ola has proposed running a campaign to politicize ride-hailing as a tactic to shift regulations in its favor. The approach suggests that, despite the appearance of ride-hailing platforms taking a more conciliatory position with regulators that are now wise to earlier startup tactics in this space, there remains a calculus involving realpolitik, propaganda and high-level lobbying between companies that want to enter or expand in markets, and those who hold the golden tickets to do so. In 2017 Estonia-based ride-hailing startup Taxify tried to launch in London ahead of regulatory approval, for example, but city authorities clamped down straight away. It was only able to return to the UK capital …

Backed by Serena Williams and Usain Bolt, Lets Do This raises $15M from EQT

Back in September, endurance events marketplace Let’s Do This (a YC alumni) raised a $5 million seed round from a number of U.S. investors, including Olympic star Usain Bolt and tennis star Serena Williams. As much as I’d like to get excited, this is slightly par for the course for a lot of sports-oriented startups that catch the eye of a celebrity. Not that they are without merit, of course. Suffice it to say, their sports stars, plus a strong push to get funding from Silicon Valley, has landed the startup with a $15 million Series A round led by European/U.S. VC EQT, with participation of the previous investors, including Trulia founder Pete Flint, Y Combinator, alongside, yes, you guessed …
